Teaching

My teaching goal is to effectively transfer fundamental knowledge on the course subject and to encourage proactive learning and critical thinking. Although transferring fundamental knowledge is important, I strongly believe that promoting lifelong proactive learning, fostering efficient teamwork and effective communication skills, and inspiring critical thinking are more important at shaping and preparing our students. Therefore, I developed the “Five-able” teaching philosophy: knowledgeable, transferrable, learnable,  enjoyable, and practicable.

As reflected in students’ course evaluation (some exemplary comments are shown below), my “Five-able” teaching philosophy has been proved effective in shaping the future of my students. I will keep refining it throughout my career, dedicating myself to empowering the next generation of our talents.

    • “Professor Pan was really resourceful about this course, and she was continually improving course content (such as added parts for p-value because her former students indicated that there were interview questions on p-value).”
    • “The slides are logical, coherent, and well-structured.” “Instructor took extra care to transfer subject knowledge completely to the class.”  “She is extremely kind and genuinely wants to see students succeed. She has great powerpoints and teaches at a good pace.”
    • “Amy Pan was very enthusiastic about the material and presented it in a way that made it easy to learn.”
    • “I personally found the course to be interesting and I was able to learn a lot about different programming models and how they can affect the performance of a business.”
    •  “This course was really helpful for future career decisions and personal decisions in life. The project she assigned to us helped us understand the information we learned in class a lot better by applying it to real-life situations that can be very useful in the future and even the present. ” “This course is highly beneficial in my future career as it has given me some additional skills and techniques for excel that can help me better analyze data in my future job.”
    • Thank you for making things run so smoothly and calming my nerves for this program. Your teaching style is very efficient, and I feel like you have shown that your students’ success is in your best interest. It’s not easy to find a professor who truly just wants their students to succeed, with no gimmicks or curves thrown at us. I just wanted to thank you again for making this experience enjoyable and actually teaching me useful skills and that I am very grateful that I was able to take a course with you!
