Courageous Dialogues by Brown Center for Leadership and Service

The Brown Center for Leadership and Service is happy to announce that we will be partnering with LeaderShape to host Courageous Dialogues on October 26th from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm.

Courageous Dialogue will provide students with a framework to engage in meaningful and impactful conversations around values alignment, racial inequality, and creating stronger communities. As people continue to manage life during the pandemic, react and respond to civil unrest, and work through the dynamics of a national election this fall, we feel this topic will help organization leaders as they prepare to engage students in what could be very challenging conversations.

During this program, participants will learn how to:

  • Approach difficult conversations with an open mind.
  • See others as experts in their own experiences
  • Gain tools to engage in discussions with respect and an openness to change.

Register today to secure your spot. After completing the registration form, you will receive an email detailing the next step in the process.

To learn more, visit the LeaderShape page on the BCLS Website.

New Course – MAR4933/27791

New course offered Fall 2020!

MAR4933/27791 (4 credits) – Foundations of Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This course CAN count as a Marketing elective.

Businesses today often use data to solve complex problems. In addition, numbers and data tell the company story. A business that ignores the data it generates is at a significant disadvantage. The skills required to analyze and interpret that data are in short supply. Regardless of the domain a student decides to work in after graduation, it is likely that data analytics skills will make them more competitive in the job market. Knowledge of data analytics gives our students a competitive edge.

This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of data analytics and machine learning using the powerful programming language Python. No prior programming experience is required. The course is structured into two sections. Students will first learn the basics of Python and how to write programs, and in module 2 progress to using Python to solve real world problems

Why learn Python? Python is rapidly becoming the language of choice for data scientists, data analysts, and those working on cutting edge business analytics. It is the tool of choice for this work at companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, IBM, NASA, Accenture, & Deloitte. It is also free to use, making it widely available to firms and users around the world. Beyond business analytics, Python is often used as a general programming language to automate tasks.

Business Career Services says this class is important because “every business major from marketing to finance needs to communicate the data to stakeholders and the c-suite”.
