Gator for UNICEF is a student-led organization part of the UNICEF USA clubs program. UNICEF USA and our club work to strengthen the goals of UNICEF, a United Nations nonprofit organization aiding children and women in developing countries worldwide.
Our chapter participates in advocacy on behalf of UNICEF USA, speaking on important legislation that affects both the city of Gainesville and the country. Last year, we spoke with Gainesville’s Mayor, Lauren Poe, about UNICEF’s Child-Friendly Cities Initiative. Many of our members also participated in UNICEF USA’s 2021 Virtual Advocacy Week, where we met with the offices of Florida legislators such as Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Rick Scott, and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz. This semester, Gator for UNICEF is excited to continue promoting the importance of youth voices and child safety through advocacy.
Gator for UNICEF members also benefit from speakers such as Dr. Stephen Mulkey, who spoke about the urgency of climate change at a General Body Meeting last semester. Dr. Mulkey helped club members learn more about the significance of climate change, its impact on the world’s children, and how to educate others on such global issues.
Our club also provides opportunities for professional development in the form of leadership positions, networking opportunities, and headshot events.
Throughout this Fall semester we will have six general body meetings in addition to multiple fundraising, advocacy, and social events. Membership is open until September 29th.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Gator for UNICEF. We hope that you will reach out to us with any questions you may have. To stay updated on our club’s events and announcements, follow us on Instagram: @g4unicef.

In partnership with the University of Florida Doctor of Plant Medicine Program, we conduct a vocational training program for individuals to learn about horticulture and gain job skills. Participants of the program have the opportunity to become Certified Horticulture Professionals after completing the course. For individuals that have experienced trauma, spending time in the garden also promotes mental and physical health. Volunteer gardeners and GRACE Marketplace guests work together to grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to be prepared in the GRACE Marketplace Café 131 where individuals experiencing homelessness may come to enjoy nutritious food produced with tender love and care.
We gladly welcome all students, staff, or faculty interested in volunteering, but are especially looking for:
- Board Members
- Social Media/Community Engagement/Marketing
- Gardeners (no experience necessary!)
You can read more about these positions on serveGNV: http://bit.do/GRACE-grows
If you are a student organization interested in organizing a day of service, please contact us directly.
