Day 1:

Day 2:
RT Mart :
Store tour only.  Taiwan-based supermarket and general merchandise store.  Parent company opened first store on China mainland in 1997, then came to Yingkou in 2003.  Goal: provide lower prices, but high quality.

Xinglong Shopping Square: Shopping district tour only, designed to show shopping options at a more remote part of the city.  Area featured traditional small shops and stall, outdoor market, and some high-end retailers (e.g., menswear) with extraordinarily high staffing/service – and price – levels.

Combined, formal meeting: Formal roundtable meeting with managers of RT Mart and Xinglong Shopping Square, Yingkou University faculty member to discuss store tours, plus retailing development in Yingkou.

Day 3:
Yingkou Economic & Technology Development Zone:
All-day tour of new port developments, cultural and recreational facilities, beachfront and pier, including multimedia “showcase” of plans.  Also toured nearly-completed Coca-Cola bottling plant. Discussion focused on need to build Yingkou’s global identity as part of plan to make it a major destination as a port of entry and shipping for northeast China.  Substantial additional infrastructure building under way: apartments, subways, airport, high-speed rail, roads.  At tour’s end, group walked through downtown Yingkou “wet market”.
